Husch Blackwell Strategies Adds Chris Hughes to Texas Team
AUSTIN, TX – Husch Blackwell Strategies today announced J. Christopher (Chris) Hughes is joining the team as a Principal in the firm’s Austin, Texas office. Husch Blackwell Strategies provides federal and state legislative government affairs, consulting and lobbying.
A sixth generation Texan, Hughes began his work in the Texas Legislative process during the 70th Legislature in 1987. Hughes has represented a wide range of clients at the legislature on matters related to energy, natural resources, financial services, education, healthcare, and real estate, among others.
“Chris is a highly effective advocate for his clients and brings over 30 years of legislative and legal experience to Husch Blackwell Strategies. He knows Texas, understands how to navigate tough issues and specializes in solutions,” said Andy Blunt, Chairman of the Board and Chief Operating Officer for Husch Blackwell Strategies.

Hughes has been a partner at Husch Blackwell LLP and its Texas predecessor Brown McCarroll LLP for the last 14 years where his legal practice has focused on energy issues, helping clients in the development, sale, and acquisition of energy assets and projects and navigating the regulatory and legislative process in Texas. As an attorney, Hughes has regularly represented energy clients before the Public Utility Commission of Texas, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, the Texas legislature. Hughes will continue to serve as Senior Counsel to Husch Blackwell LLP. Before joining Brown McCarroll and Husch Blackwell, Hughes held executive positions at Exelon Corp and Entergy Corp, and staff positions in the Texas governor’s office, The United States Senate, and Texas State Senate. Hughes holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Houston Law Center and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin.
